Poas Volcano National Park

Location: 40 miles north of San Jose
Size: 16,000 acres
National Park since: January 25, 1971
Highlights: Poas volcano, geyser, trail system through the cloud forest to Botos lake
Facilities: Visitor center with cafeteria


A fascinating and popular attraction not far from San Jose offer visitors a view of the colorful crates and are accessible by vehicle. Botos Lake fills one of the two summit craters.


The visitor's center is open 8am to 4pm and has interactive & educational displays.
