La Amistad International Park

Region: Central
Location: from San Jose head south via Cartago on the Pan-American, pass over Cerro de la Muerte to San Isidro de El General.
Size: 491,896 acres
National Park since: February 22, 1982
Highlights: varied terrain, lots of wildlife, hiking, rafting, bird-watching
Facilities: 3 ranger stations, camping areas with restrooms, showers, potable water and electricity.

La Amistad is the largest national park and protected area in all of Costa Rica and protects diverse habitats such as tropical lowland rainforest to cloud forests. So vast, that much of the park has yet to be explored.

Hiking, fishing, rafting and bird watching.

Explorers in this biodiverse area will enjoy seeing tapirs, giant anteaters, jaguars, monkeys, coatis, ocelot, over 600 species of birds, 300 species of reptiles and amphibians, and over 100 species of fish.
